  “Sir, the mission is complete, but there was a child on scene.”

  “Yes, we were aware that Ashem had a child, but he was not a target,” Admiral Thompson said.

  “Sir, we should have been given all the intel available.”

  “You, Commander, were given the intel we deemed was relevant and that is all.”

  “Copy that Admiral.”

  We had no intel that a child would be on the scene. I will never forget the sadness I saw in that child’s eyes. I started to feel like I was losing my soul. After the mission the team was approved for leave for a week. I contacted Natalia and asked her to meet me in Fiji and she agreed. Natalia and I had put our relationship on hold for long enough.

  Chapter 29

  After the mission Vince, Maurice and I parted ways and I took a small chartered plane to Fiji. Once I arrived I settled into the beachfront villa I had rented and put away the groceries I bought at the local market. I walked into the large bedroom to relax a little before Natalia arrived later this afternoon. I walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. I slipped out of my jeans and shirt and stepped into the hot steaming shower. Afterwards, I stood in front of the steamed mirror. I wiped the steam away with my hand and stared at my reflection. Instead that pain manifested and turned me into something much worse, a cold-blooded killer. Suddenly, I heard a boat approaching the dock. I ran into the bedroom and threw on a pair of white linen pants and navy-blue shirt. I grabbed my 9mm off the bed and a pair of binoculars to see who was approaching. I could see it was Natalia coming in with an island man driving. I watched as her beautiful face came into view and her hair blew in the wind. I ran out to the dock to greet her.   “So, how did the mission go?”

  “How do we get out? You know that this is not a life you just walk away from.”

  “We will be okay. You still have the money we got when we joined right?”

  “Yes, I still have it.”

  “We can move away where no one knows us and start over baby.”

  “What about your family Jason? What about Ryan?”

  “Of course, they would know where we are Natalia. I would never cut communication with my brother. I love you and its finally time for us, I refuse to wait any longer.”

  As I sat next to Jason with my legs crossed it suddenly felt like it had just gotten more humid in the room. I couldn’t believe Jason was being this open with me. I wanted more.   “Yes, but I have never been able to process what happened to me. I kept all my anger and pain inside, and instead used that to fuel me and justify my decision to become an assassin. I felt like my soul was tortured and that there was no escape from the pain, but that was until I laid eyes on your beautiful face. I no longer wanted us to risk our lives for our government’s benefit. My future was uncertain and that was a scary thing for me to face at the end of the day. I was startled out of my thoughts when my earpiece began to ring.

  “Hey what’s up, Vince?” I said.

  “Commander we have been activated for the Valchek mission. Ryan received intel confirming Valchek has the files and is throwing a big party at his mansion in Moscow in four days. We are to report their immediately,” he said.

  “Copy that Vince. Has the rest of the team been called in?” I asked.

  “Yes, Commander. Maurice is flying in to
pick you and Natalia up as we speak.” Vince said.

  “Okay. Natalia and I will meet you and the rest of the team at the safe house in Moscow in two days.” I said.

  “Copy that Commander. Give Natalia a cheeky squeeze for me, too.”

  “Haha. Copy that Vince,” I laughed.

  As I ran back to the villa and entered, I inhaled the smell of fresh fruit, bacon, and eggs.
